Orders and Medals Research Society (New Zealand) Branch
The New Zealand Branch of the Orders and Medals Research Society (OMRS) is the largest society of medal collectors in New Zealand. The OMRS is a UK-based society with a global membership dedicated to the research and collecting of orders, decorations and medals, in memory and honour of the original recipients. It is a 'members only' society administered and run by elected volunteers from within the membership. A constitution and by-laws ensure that the society runs smoothly and for the benefit of all members.
The New Zealand Branch was established as the Wellington Branch under the OMRS By-Laws and renamed the New Zealand Branch in 2018. It has approximately 30 members across the length of New Zealand, with 20-25 being members of the local Branch. On 27 November 2019 the Orders and Medals Research Society (OMRS) New Zealand Branch also became a branch of the RNSNZ, providing for it to have legal form within New Zealand.
The Branch is governed by a voted committee, with regional representatives across New Zealand. The AGM on 10 April 2022 saw Todd Skilton (Chair), John O’Reilly (Secretary) and David Dickens (member) re-elected.
The Branch regularly meets in members’ homes. For details of meeting times and venues contact john_o_reilly@hotmail.com. It also holds an annual one-day event devoted to medals research, with a semi-formal dinner in the evening.
