The Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand (incorporating the Wellington Coin Club and the Manawatu Numismatic Society) is a non-profit organisation which was founded in 1931 to encourage and promote the study of numismatics and other related historical subjects.
The Society is based in Wellington but has a national and international membership. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month from February to November, usually in the McCarthy and Featherston Rooms of The Wellington Club on Level 4, 88 The Terrace, Wellington.
Most meetings feature a special topic presented by a member or a guest speaker. Generally, time is also scheduled for members to discuss and show numismatic items of interest (e.g. recent acquisitions). The Society takes part in an annual Saturday get-together with the Manawatu RNSNZ members and Wanganui Numismatic Society, usually in late February.
The Society publishes the New Zealand Numismatic Journal (NZNJ) annually. Articles cover a wide range of subjects of numismatic interest, with a good New Zealand content. Back copies are available on this website. Newsletters (usually two a year) on current and general topics are also produced. The Society also has an extensive library of numismatic books and related literature which is available for members to borrow.
Annual Subscription
The annual subscription for membership of the Society:
• for members wishing to receive posted Journals or Newsletters in hard copy:
o $NZ35 for New Zealand
o $A35 for Australia
o $US35 for the rest of world
o discounted to $30 in the relevant currency if paid by 30 June
o half price for junior members
• for members wishing to receive both Journals and Newsletters in electronic format only:
o $NZ25 for New Zealand
o $A25 for Australia
o $US25 for the rest of world
o discounted to $20 in the relevant currency if paid by 30 June
o half price for junior members
For new members joining after 30 September the subscription is $17.50 in the relevant currency to receive posted Journals or Newsletters and $12.50 in the relevant currency to receive Journals or Newsletters in electronic format only.
