The Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand (incorporating the Wellington Coin Club) is a non-profit organisation which was founded in 1931 to encourage and promote the study of numismatics and other related historical subjects.

The Society is based in Wellington but has a national and international membership. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month from February to November, usually in Te Puni Kokiri House, Lambton Quay, but other venues of interest are sometimes used.

Most meetings feature a special topic presented by a member or a guest speaker. Generally, time is also scheduled for members to discuss and show numismatic items of interest (e.g., recent acquisitions). The Society takes part in an annual Saturday get-together with the Manawatu and Wanganui Numismatic Societies.

The Society publishes the New Zealand Numismatic Journal (NZNJ), with one and sometimes two issues per year. Articles cover a wide range of subjects of numismatic interest, with a good New Zealand content. Back copies are available for purchase, though some of the early issues are good quality photocopies rather than originals. Newsletters (two or three a year) on current and general topics are also produced. The Society also has an extensive library of numismatic books and related literature.

The Society’s website is a “work in progress”. Currently, all of the public pages have been completed and much content has been added in the members area (including RNSNZ newsletters, issues of the NZNJ, and old Wellington Coin Club newsletters).
